A Simple, New Powerful Way to Take Action5Calls.org

I recently discovered 5 Calls and was struck by how effective—and doable—it is. In a moment when news and policy shift daily, and it’s hard to know where to focus, 5 Calls makes civic action clear, timely, and doable.

The website and app automatically identify your congressional and state representatives based on your ZIP code and provide the phone number for the closest local office, where calls are far more likely to be answered than the congressional or assembly switchboard. For each issue, 5 Calls provides a short, clear conversational script with 5–6 bullet points—you can simply choose the ones that best capture what you want to say.
 How it works:

  • Enter your ZIP code
  • Choose an issue that matters
  • Pick your talking points
  • Call the local office

I made five calls in under 7 minutes and felt informed, confident, and genuinely empowered. You can also sign up for a weekly email highlighting the most up-to-date issues to weigh in on.

Visit https://5calls.org or download the “5 Calls” app from the Apple App Store or Google Play (look for five white stars on a blue background)

CA’s ResistBot: What it is and How to Use it

ResistBot is a simple, free tool that helps people contact their elected officials by sending a text message to 50409. It is an automated assistant—similar to today’s AI tools—that replies instantly with clear instructions when you text it. AAUW-CA uses ResistBot when they want members to take quick action on important federal or California legislation. Instead of searching for email addresses for your elected officials or writing your own message, you can sign onto an AAUW-CA–drafted letter in just a few minutes.

School Board Project Update:

If so, would you like to be a part of our School Board Outreach Team? We are looking for two people: one who would like to monitor the Lafayette Elementary District and the other to monitor the Moraga Elementary School District.

Liddy Clark currently monitors the Orinda School District. She says, “Going to the Orinda School Board is fun and warms my heart every time I go. Last month, there was a presentation honoring the English As A Second Language Learners. Each student was called up and handed a diploma for their accomplishment and shook the hand of the school board president. They heard over and over how everyone welcomed them and how much our school was better because they were here. Imagine that! It made me think about how lucky we are in Orinda. This was followed with a first grade presentation on heroes. This is why I attend these board meetings”

If you are interested in joining our Team, contact Karen Feeney.

Upcoming Public Policy Webinars:

Saturday Jan 31, 2026 9:00am-12:30pm, ½ Day Symposium via Zoom –  “AAUW School Board Project: Defending the Frontline of Democracy.” Title IX has been weakened, inclusive curriculum restricted, and book bans have expanded nationwide. School boards have become focal points for efforts to censor classrooms and marginalize LGBTQ+ students. K-12 institutions are under pressure to abandon diversity, equity, and inclusion policies. The AAUW California School Board Project is equipping members to speak up at local school board meetings, support values-aligned candidates, and build strong local coalitions.
